Summons Sentry

The Brood Staff is a craftable Pre-Hardmode summon weapon. It summons a friendly Rattler sentry known as a Nestling that remains in place and lingers for two minutes before disappearing, lunging at any nearby enemies to deal minor damage and inflict 5 seconds of Poisoned. Each Nestling takes up only half of a sentry slot, allowing twice as many to be summoned as other sentries to compensate for their low range.

Its best modifier is Ruthless for damage output, or Mythical for repeated summoning. While ruthless provides more damage, the sentry can be utilized to repeatedly summon near enemies, which is viable due to how the sentry attacks with contact. Therefore, it may benefit from more speed and mana cost reduction.

Notes

• The sentry cannot attack midair. It will only attack when grounded on solid tiles and platforms.

Tips

• The knockback of the sentry can be used to ward off hordes of ground enemies, such as zombies, from either side of the player. This can be particularly useful in early Pre-Hardmode if players find themselves overwhelmed on the surface.
