The Proteolysis is a craftable Hardmode magic weapon. On use, it causes fang projectiles to appear near any enemies close to the cursor that fly towards them, disappearing on impact and inflicting Acid Venom. While the weapon's base mana cost is 8 per shot, using it on multiple enemies will multiply this cost by the number of targets (up to five for a mana cost of 40), and it will consume no mana if no valid targets are in range.

Its best modifier is Mythical.

Trivia

• Proteolysis is the process of breaking down proteins into smaller molecules such as polypeptides or amino acids, catalyzed by enzymes called proteases. Some snake venoms are proteases, interfering with blood clotting; hence the weapon's name.
