The Contagun is a flawless Hardmode ranged weapon that is dropped by the Esophage when defeated without taking any damage from it. It fires a flamethrower-esque stream of gas that shifts between red and purple, dealing rapid damage to any enemies it touches but stopped by terrain, as well as intermittently shooting small virus projectiles that can bounce infinitely off of terrain unti their natural expiry or upon hitting an enemy.

When hitting an enemy, the viruses will infect the target, causing them to periodically fire out more virus projectiles in random directions; this functions similarly in logic to Bone Javelins' Penetrated effect, with more consecutive hits worsening the infection and causing viruses to spawn faster. These secondary viruses can also infect enemies, allowing large crowds to constantly re-infect each other for massive damage, making this weapon ideal for events.

Its best modifier is Unreal.
