The Variable Wispon is a Hardmode ranged weapon found alongside Bubby's set in Hardmode Polarities Mod Treasure Bags, with a 5% chance. It has three different firing modes toggled between with ⚷ Open / Activate, each signified with a different color of glow on the weapon itself and using a different type of ammo to fire a unique projectile:
- Laser mode (cyan) consumes bullets to fire a fast-moving laser shot that will penetrate enemies and bounces off of surfaces up to three times before disappearing.
- Spikes mode (pink) consumes darts to fire a gravity-affected spikeball that attaches to any terrain it hits, spinning in place and rapidly damaging any enemies touching it for several seconds.
- Rocket mode (orange) consumes rockets to fire a powerful rocket projectile that slightly homes in on nearby enemies, slowly curving towards them.
As a result of its three varying functions, this is a very versatile weapon, able to cover a range of niches while only taking one item slot; Laser mode is most useful in enclosed spaces where it can deal maximum damage with its bounces or against long clusters of enemies that it can hit all at once with its piercing, Spikes can set lingering traps for ground-bound enemies to provide cover while doing something else or deal additional damage to crowds, and Rocket deals heavy burst damage, especially to aerial targets that Spikes cannot reach or slow-moving foes that its homing can track.
Its best modifier is Unreal. Do note that the weapon's bonus use speed will reset after the first time it switches between firing modes.

Trivia
- It is directly based on the Variable Wispon from IDW Publishing's Sonic the Hedgehog comic series, utilizing three of its five modes best suited to ranged combat when used with a Cyan, Pink, or Orange Wisp. This ties it in to the rest of Bubby's set, which is based on its wielder Whisper the Wolf; of the two modes not implemented into the weapon, the green umbrella-esque Hover mode is used for the set's wings, while the blue hammer-like Cube mode is completely unrepresented.
