The Rattler is a fairly common pre-Hardmode enemy found in the surface Desert. They do not move, but if the player gets too close, they will make a rattling noise as a warning. If the player gets closer, it will lunge and bite them, dealing significant damage for a pre-Hardmode enemy.

Below 50% health, Rattlers can be caught with a Bug Net, turning into a Snek Hat.

Trivia

• During Halloween, some rattlers wear top hats. During Christmas, some wear Santa hats.
• When a Rattler can be caught with a Bug Net, it will turn from red to green if the player has the Hunter buff.
