Radiating intense heat with hallowed magic and solar energy, the Sun Pixie is frantic in its pursuit of absolute purification. It is said, however, that even this most luminous of beings has an inner darkness.

BestiaryBestiary (Sun Pixie)

The Sun Pixie is an early Hardmode boss summoned in the Hallow, intended to be fought after at least one of the mechanical bosses.

While it is alive, its exclusive music Winged Plasma will play.

Spawning

The Sun Pixie will automatically spawn after clearing The Rapture, but can also be fought manually on its own afterwards with a Hallowed Star.

Behavior

Sun Pixie alternates at random between various attacks, never repeating the same attack twice in a row. Below 65% health, these attacks are buffed.

  • Trail Arena - Sun Pixie circles the player twice at an extremely high speed, leaving a trail of solar orbs that encircle the player. If the player leaves this arena, the solar orbs will fly outwards at high speed. Below 65% health, the boss uses this attack more frequently, and the arena created is slightly smaller.
  • Laser Rings - Sun Pixie flies to a random position above the player four times, stopping and releasing a ring of 8 accelerating lasers at each point. Below 65% health, the ring contains 12 lasers instead.
  • Swoop - Sun Pixie flies above the player, before swooping at them and flying back up into the air twice. Below 65% health, it swoops more aggressively, and does so three times instead of twice.
  • Laser Rain - Sun Pixie flies above and to the side of the player, before rapidly flying to the side, shooting accelerating lasers directly downwards. Below 65% health, the density of these projectiles is increased.
  • Solar Flares - Sun Pixie slowly flies towards the player three times, creating a set of telegraphs that are first diagonal, then orthogonal, then both, which expand into damaging solar flares after a short time. Below 65% health, the boss always creates both orthogonal and diagonal flares.
  • Deathray Sweep - Below 65% health, Sun Pixie will fly above the player, before creating a deathray that sweeps towards the player, covering a 90 degree area below the boss.

In Expert Mode, below 20% health, Sun Pixie will stop using all of its attacks except for the arena creation attack, replacing them with a few intense attacks. It also begins to use the arena creation attack as soon as the existing arena disappears.

  • Laser Storm - Sun Pixie flies above and to the side of the player, before rapidly flying back and forth above the player a total of three times, shooting accelerating lasers directly downwards.
  • Deathray Spam - The boss shoots short-lived rotating deathrays at random in all directions, with a small gap around the player.

Secret world seed changes

For the Worthy

  • It is 50% larger and its main body is colored red, in reference to red giants.
  • All projectiles are larger.
  • Laser Rings, Laser Rain, Solar Flares, and Laser Storms fire more projectiles.
  • Deathray Sweep creates six deathrays which converge towards each other, trapping the player in the middle.
  • Deathray Spam will create two of the deathrays as close to the player as possible.
  • If Hallow spread has not been disabled by the Strange Jewelry, terrain within 50 tiles of the boss will be gradually converted into the Hallow.

Celebrationmk10

  • It is 50% smaller.

Aftermath

Once the Sun Pixie has been defeated for the first time, the following will occur:

Tips

  • The telegraphs of the solar flare attack don't deal damage, meaning it's possible to adjust your direction during their downtime.
  • During the swoop attack, going downwards allows the boss to move much faster, so jumping over it is preferable to going under it.
  • The arena forms fairly slowly and follows the player while it's forming, allowing you to reposition it during the attack.
  • Honey, in addition to its regeneration bonuses, also cancels the On Fire! debuff applied by the boss's attacks.

Trivia

  • If the player is wearing Sunglasses, the Sun Pixie will also appear to don them, in a nod to the item's similar effect on the sun itself.
