Class Setups (The Stars Above)
If you're looking for an overview of the mod's menus and functions, check the Early Guide.
Stars Above adds several new weapons for all classes, but also includes new weapon damage types, such as Celestial, to use throughout the game. It also adds several new boss encounters.
Foreword
This guide should not be interpreted as a literal list of best weapons and accessories. Instead, it is to be treated as a list of available weapons and accessories available for use at that point of progression. Some of the listed items can still be useful past their suggested progression path. Players are highly encouraged to treat the guide as a starting point and to experiment with different weapons, accessories and armor sets to see what works best for them. Players are encouraged to use Vanilla items in conjunction with weapons and accessories offered within the mod.
Weapons in the mod are divided into three Aspects:
- Weapons with the Astral icon can be used only while having Asphodene as the player's chosen Starfarer;
- Weapons with the Umbral icon can be used only while having Eridani as the player's chosen Starfarer;
- Weapons with the Spatial icon can be used regardless of the player's Starfarer choice.
Players can use the Stellar Array in order to change the damage type of any weapon in the mod, effectively causing all mentioned weapons in this guide to be viable at a given point of progression regardless of class. As such, weapons in this page will be classified depending exclusively on their initial damage type for convenience (with some exceptions).
Armor will not be mentioned in this guide, as this mod is not adding any new armor pieces. For armor guides, follow vanilla progression.
While The Stars Above supports Calamity, this guide in particular covers only vanilla progression and does not take into account any changes that happen within the mod when Calamity is used.
Pre-Boss
Start as you normally would - gather materials for building, build a couple of houses, increase your maximum health, etc. You are optionally able to obtain your first Essences, Kevesi Farewell Astral or Agnian Farewell Umbral. These items are unique, and do not provide offensive capabilities, but can assist in farming due to their Luck bonus.
Pre-Eye of Cthulhu
Defeating the King Slime grants you access to the first weapon of the mod, as well as the first Stellar Array passive, if playing in Expert Mode. Feel free to craft the weapon and use it to your heart's content at this point in progression. With the help of that weapon, you can prepare yourself for your first major boss encounter. Note that if you're not using a Magic class, you can use the Stellar Array to change the damage type of your weapon. Furthermore, you now have access to Cosmic Voyages, which can be used to obtain unique materials that will be helpful later in progression.

Pre-The Vagrant of Space and Time
Defeating the Eye of Cthulhu grants new weapons and a Stellar Array ability. With your first major boss defeated, you may want to defeat the Vagrant of Space and Time, which is the first boss of the mod. You may want to max out your health before attempting this fight.

Pre-Skeletron
Having defeated the Evil Bosses should have granted you access to new gear and mod weapons. You should consider defeating the Queen Bee to help prepare you for Skeletron. While new Stellar Array abilities are available, there is still room to slot all available abilities, which means there is no need to differentiate per-class yet. Furthermore, defeating The Vagrant of Space and Time grants you access to Stellar Novas, which are powerful ultimate abilities that can be used in battle. You are able to obtain 3 Stellar Novas at this point in progression, and each of them has their pros and cons.

Pre-Wall of Flesh
By that point you should defeat all pre-Hardmode Bosses and take care of the Goblin Army. With properly reforged accessories and weapons you can get ready for the turning point in progression. In Expert Mode, all 5 slots of the Stellar Array should be filled, granting an edge for the upcoming bosses. At this point, you should have enough Prismatic Cores to start crafting Stellar Prisms to change the stats of your Stellar Nova.

Pre-Mechanical Bosses
At this point in progression, you have access to a wide variety of new tools and abilities. It's strongly recommended to defeat the Dioskouroi, the Twin Forces after defeating one of the Mechs, in order to unlock several weapon options, a new Stellar Nova and new Tier 2 Stellar Array abilities. You may have unlocked more Stellar Array abilities than your max Energy allows to use at the same time, which means that you now must balance the Array depending on your class.

The defeat of the Mechanical Bosses open your way to Plantera. You should also have access to new Stellar Array unlocks. It's also recommended to max out your Health now that Life Fruits are easier to obtain.

Pre-Lunatic Cultist
With Golem gone, the Lunatic Cultist is available. However it is strongly recommended to tackle all the optional content beforehand, such as taking on the final tier of Old One's Army, Duke Fishron, the Martian Madness and the Empress of Light. Note that defeating the Lunatic Cultist will prevent you from using the Astrolabe (Subworld travel) until the Lunar Events are complete and the Moon Lord defeated, thus make sure you have acquired everything you need from the other worlds before proceeding.
