Dioskouroi, the Twin Forces (The Stars Above)
Dioskouroi, the Twin Forces are a Hardmode boss fought after defeating a Mechanical Boss. The Dioskouroi are two separate entities, Castor and Pollux, each with its own attack pattern and health pool. Both must be defeated in order to defeat the boss.
Spawning
The Dioskouroi do not spawn naturally and are summoned using a Twincrux Pendant, which is acquired by interacting with the Spatial Disk after defeating a Mechanical Boss and The Vagrant of Space and Time.
Behavior
When spawned, Castor appears to the left of the player, while Pollux appears on the right. An arena appears around the player's position, preventing their movement beyond it. A special bar above the player appears, filling to the left or to the right depending on the player's position relative to the boss. If the left part of the bar is completely filled, the player will be affected with On Fire!. If the right part of the bar is completely filled, the player will be affected with Frostburn instead.
The Dioskouroi remain stationary throughout the fight, unless performing the Baleborn's Clash. They use a predetermined set of projectile attacks:
Castor | Pollux |
---|---|
Exoflare | Freezing Azimuth |
Exoflare [cont.] | Chilling Hail |
Baleborn Clash | Baleborn Clash |
Rite of Ignition | Diamond Dust |
Balefire | Diamond Dust [cont.] |
Blazing Azimuth | Freezing Azimuth |
Eruption | Frozen Arsenal |
Baleborn Clash | Baleborn Clash |
Wall of Ignition | Armory of Ice |
Inferno Ignition | Diamond Dust |
Baleborn Clash | Baleborn Clash |
Rite of Ignition | Armory of Ice |
Blazing Azimuth | Freezing Azimuth |
Eruption | Diamond Dust |
Wall of Ignition | Frozen Arsenal |
Attacks
Castor uses the following attacks:
- Baleborn's Clash: The Dioskouroi clash against each other, equalizing their health to whichever of the two had lower. This attack is always casted by both Castor and Pollux at the same time.
- Exoflare: Castor summons red stars that explode one after another after a while.
- Wall of Ignition: Castor summons flaming projectiles behind him that move to the right.
- Inferno Ignition: Castor summons portals to the left of the player's position, constantly firing flaming projectiles from them towards the player's position.
- Rite of Ignition: Castor summons portals below the player's position, after which several flaming projectiles spawn from them, moving vertically upwards.
- Blazing Azimuth: Castor summons flaming projectiles from the top-left corner of the arena.
- Eruption: Castor summons a group of flaming projectiles from the bottom-right side of the arena that move vertically upwards.
- Balefire: Castor summons a flaming projectile moving in an arc patter, from which more flaming projectiles emit, moving at high speed towards the player.
All of Castor's attacks inflict On Fire!
Pollux uses the following attacks:
- Baleborn's Clash: The Dioskouroi clash against each other, equalizing their health to whichever of the two had lower. This attack is always casted by both Castor and Pollux at the same time.
- Armory of Ice: Pollux summons frozen projectiles from above the arena that aim towards the player's position when casted, gaining speed as they traverse downwards.
- Freezing Azimuth: Pollux summons freezing projectiles from the top-right corner of the arena.
- Diamond Dust: Pollux creates two circle areas at the position of the player, dealing damage to the players caught in it when the attack is cast.
- Frozen Arsenal: Pollux creates several freezing projectiles from the top-left side of the arena, moving downwards.
- Chilling Hail: Pollux summons five freezing projectiles moving vertically downwards, with their position based on the position of the player.
All of Pollux's attacks inflict Frostburn.
Tips
- It is recommended to start the fight while slightly above ground, in order to gain maximised space for the arena.
- Since Clashing sets the Twins' health to that of the weaker one, it is best to focus hitting only one of the bosses.
- Pollux can harm Castor with his attacks and vice versa. Position yourself correctly while either of the two are casting their attacks to further increase your damage output.
Trivia
