The Strange Obituary is a Pre-Hardmode book that is purchased from the Ghostwriter for 5 when she is in a Graveyard. When used, it will cause the player to die instantly upon receiving any damage, useful for challenge runs and obtaining flawless items as they allow an instant death and reset upon taking damage and failing the flawless run. It also does not technically count as a book buff, allowing it to be combined with other books freely (one other buff usually, two with the Reading Glasses equipped, and three with the Spectral Lenses).

When a player dies to the Strange Obituary's effect, their death message will read "<name of player> died for strange reasons."
