A Midsummer Nightmare is a Hardmode book that is purchased from the Ghostwriter for 5 after the Empress of Light is defeated. When used, the player's critical hits will deal 25% extra damage and bypass up to 25 points of defense. As an aesthetic touch, the player's damage numbers will be rainbow-colored while the effect is active, ordinarily dulled while critical hits are much more vibrant.
