Expert Mode-Only Content: This information (or parts of it) applies only to Expert Mode and Expert Mode worlds.

The Tide Popper is an Expert Mode exclusive Hardmode collector that has a small chance of being dropped by Duke Fishron after defeating Moon Lord. Unlike other collectors, it is thrown like a Javelin rather than used like a staff or swung like a sword. It has the Tidal Pearls of Fortune ability.

When the thrown lance hits an enemy, it splits into 3 Tidal Beams that will home back in on nearby targets. Each hit made by the lance will grant 2 stacks of Tide Power, and every hit made by a Tidal Beam will grant 1 stack.

Notes

  • The Tide Popper gains a 12.5% damage bonus if near water, a sprinkler, or if it is raining.
  • If Tidal Targeting is enabled (can be toggled by using the Tide Popper with secondary fire), Tidal Beams will prioritise homing in on the enemy hit by the thrown lance that created them.

History

  • 1.0.1: Corrected a typo in the tooltip
  • 1.0:
    • Decreased damage & Tidal Beam combined burst damage from 984 to 140
      • The original damage values were intended to allow for some compatibility with the Calamity Mod's early post-Moon Lord content, but due to complications leading to full compatibility being temporarily scrapped, this extreme value was rendered entirely pointless
  • 0.5.1:
    • Secondary fire can now be used to toggle whether or not the homing AI of the Tidal Raindrop projectiles prioritises targeting enemies hit by the lance that created them
    • Increased drop chance from Duke Fishron from 0.15% / 0.3% / 0.45% to 1.67% / 3.33% / 5%
  • 0.4.2.1: Fixed an issue with the drop conditions that allowed it to be dropped before defeating Moon Lord
  • 0.4.2:
    • Reworked to attack more like a Javelin than a Spear
    • Increased value from 66 to 2
    • Damage bonus from water proximity decreased from 20% to 12.5%
    • All fired projectiles can now critically hit
    • Updated sprite. Old was: Tide Popper 0.3 to 0.4.2 (Bee Swarm Simulator Mod).png
