Royal Jelly is a special item that allows you to change the type of a bee present in a Hive Slot. It can be dropped by bosses, as well as occasionally the Mantis, or purchased from the Noob Bear after defeating the Eye of Cthulhu for a price that scales with progression (similarly to with Basic Eggs).

The buy prices scales with progression as follows:

• After defeating the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu: 15,000
• After defeating Skeletron: 25,000
• After entering Hardmode: 30,000
• After defeating any Mechanical Boss: 50,000
• After defeating Plantera: 100,000

Alternatively, they can be looted by the following enemy:

• Mantis (6.3% chance)
• After defeating Plantera: 1-2 from Mantis (12.5% chance)

Or dropped from the following bosses:

• King Slime (100% chance for 1-2 on first defeat, then 2.1% / 4.2% / 5.6% chance)
  • If in Expert Mode or higher, the first-time drop amount is increased to 2-3
• Eye of Cthulhu, Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu (1% / 2.1% / 2.8% chance)
• Queen Bee (1.1% / 2.2% / 2.8% chance)
• Skeletron (1.2% / 2.4% / 3% chance)
• Deerclops (1.3% / 2.4% / 3% chance)
• Wall of Flesh (1.4% / 2.8% / 3.3% chance)
  • If in Expert Mode or higher, all drops from this point (including this one) will drop 1-2 Royal Jelly
• Queen Slime (100% chance for 2-4 on first defeat, then 4.2% / 8.3% / 11.1% chance)
  • If in Expert Mode or higher, the first-time drop amount is increased to 3-6
• The Destroyer, The Twins or Skeletron Prime (2.1% / 4.2% / 5.6 chance)
• Plantera or Golem (2.8% / 5.6% / 6.7% chance)
• Duke Fishron (3.3% / 6.7% / 8.3% chance)
  • If in Expert Mode or higher, all drops from this point (including this one) will drop 2-4 Royal Jelly
• Empress of Light (4.2% / 8.3% / 11.1% chance)
• Moon Lord (8.3% / 16.7% / 25% chance)

The chances of obtaining a bee of specific rarity from using a Royal Jelly are:

• Rare: 70%
• Epic: 30% (Chance is lowered to 27% in Hardmode or Master Mode due to the introduction of legendary bees)
• Legendary: 3% (Only in Hardmode or Master Mode)
