Biome chests are Hardmode chests found within the Dungeon. Each contains one specific rare, powerful weapon, in addition to other miscellaneous items. While Biome Chests are placed during world creation, they are initially locked and can only be opened with an appropriate biome key, which will only become available in Hardmode as an incredibly rare drop from any enemy in the according biome and usable once Plantera has been defeated.

The Polarities Mod currently adds one extra biome chest to the game, and additionally makes the vanilla chests of both evil biomes generate no matter which evil is chosen, allowing the Scourge of the Corruptor and Vampire Knives to be obtained in Crimson and Corruption worlds by using the Esophage's dropped items to artificially create the opposite evil to find a key in.
