Goozma (Lore) (Hunt of the Old God).png "...A perfect being comprised of naught but imperfect parts…" Goozma (Lore) (Hunt of the Old God).png

Goozma is a major boss that takes the form of the Slime God attuned with virtually every slime in the Terrarian world. It is intended to be fought after Yharon, Dragon of Rebirth has been defeated, around the same time as Supreme Witch, Calamitas and the Exo Mechs.

Defeating it drops Chromatic Mass, which is needed to craft Shadowspec Bars as well as a set of weapons.

Spawn

Goozma does not spawn on its own, and requires the player to throw an Overloaded Sludge onto King Slime or Queen Slime during a Slime Rain after Hardmode has started. This can be achieved easily by crafting a Slime Ninja Statue, and using a Gelatinous Catalyst to start a Slime Rain. Once King Slime or Queen Slime comes in contact with the sludge, they will be instantly killed, leaving behind a floating Overloaded Sludge that absorbs large amounts of purely visual slimes from offscreen towards it. As the Slime Rain continues, a chat message will indicate that the Slime Monsoon has begun. After several seconds, Goozma emerges from the sludge and the fight begins.

Goozma can be refought more easily using the Pluripotent Spawn Egg (crafted from Chromatic Mass) on the Slime Ninja Statue, which skips the requirement for Slime Rain.

Behavior

Goozma’s fight consists of two main phases. Phase 1 consists of Goozma cycling between four different slimes in a set order: the Ebonian Behemuck, Divine Gargooptuar, Crimulan Glopstrosity, and Stellar Geliath. Each slime has three different attacks that are performed in a set order. Slimes share the same health pool as Goozma, and damaging slimes will damage Goozma and vice-versa. One thing to note is that all four slimes have 75% damage reduction, making it more advisable to focus on Goozma. In Expert Mode, once Goozma hits 33% health, it will explode into harmless particles then reform to begin phase 2. Phase 2 consists of Goozma shooting projectiles at the player, dashing at them, and sitting stationary while firing a colossal laser beam. Upon defeating Goozma, it will crack apart then pop, dropping its loot.

Attacks

Ebonian Behemuck

  • For its first attack, Goozma hovers above the player while firing two streams of Hunt of the Old God/Slime ShotSlime Shots at diagonal angles downwards. The Behemuck itself will jump 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 times below the player while launching spreads of Hunt of the Old God/Toxic Sludge (projectile)Toxic Sludge upwards upon each land. Each jump lasts for 2 / 1.66 / 1.16 / 1 seconds and the Behemuck will automatically “land” on an invisible platform once the timer has ended if no blocks are present.
  • For its second attack, the slime splits into 10 smaller slimes that evenly orbit the player. The ring will then spin and telegraphed pairs of slimes will slam inwards towards the player in quick succession, with each slam additionally flinging a couple Hunt of the Old God/Toxic Sludge (projectile)Toxic Sludge upwards.
  • For its third attack, the slime appears below the player with an aura upwards. The slime will then harmlessly jump upwards and spawn two pillars of Ebonstone to either side of the player while launching the player upwards. Every 2 seconds, transparent Hunt of the Old God/Ebonstone ToothEbonstone Teeth will start protruding from the walls and become fully opaque after 2.33 / 2.16 / 2 seconds, gaining the ability to damage the player. The spikes will retract shortly after. This attack is repeated 2 / 3 / 4 times. The player gains infinite flight during this attack.

Divine Gargooptuar

  • For its first attack, the slime will attempt to stick on the player while dealing no contact damage. The slime will then sequentially summon 3 / 4 rounds of 3 / 4 / 5 large, harmless stars known as Prism Destroyers that evenly orbit around it. After a couple seconds, the Prism Destroyers will expand and start damaging the player if touched. The Prism Destroyers will slowly rotate in this state.
  • For its second attack, Goozma will hover below the player while the Divine Gargooptuar hovers above. Goozma will diagonally shoot two streams of Hunt of the Old God/Slime ShotSlime Shots upwards while the Divine Gargooptuar constantly fires a random spread of Hunt of the Old God/Gel Crystal ShardGel Crystal Shards upwards. This attack lasts 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 seconds.
  • For its third attack, the Divine Gargooptuar forms a crystal shield. A a harmless Pixie Ball signaled with a Hunt of the Old God/Touch it signTouch it sign alerting the player that the ball should be touched instead of avoided. The ball will always try to move towards the Divine Gargooptuar. If the ball comes in contact with the shield, it will break open, cause a burst of gravity-affected shards, and rebound, with the slime beginning to flash. If the ball touches the slime a second time, a colossal explosion of light occurs which sets player health to 5 or kills them if lower. During this attack, Goozma will orbit at a distance around the slime while firing even circles of Hunt of the Old God/Bloated ShotBloated Shots.

Crimulan Glopstrosity

  • For its first attack, the slime hovers above the player with a telegraphing aura extending downwards. The slime will predictively attempt to slam onto the player after a second. Once the slime has reached the player’s vertical position, it will release a damaging shockwave outwards as well as spawning 10 / 12 / 16 / 18 clones in a large random spread around it which also slam downwards, but without any shockwaves. This attack is repeated 2 / 3 / 4 times. During this attack, Goozma fires Hunt of the Old God/Slime ShotSlime Shots in the player’s general direction.
  • Its second attack plays out similarly to its first attack, with it hovering above the player before slamming downwards, but then jumping upwards and hovering above the player. While the slime is hovering, it will gradually summon 12 / 16 downward slamming clones from a far distance on both sides of the player which slowly close inwards. After the last clones have slammed down, the Crimulan Glopstrosity itself will slam downwards again.
  • Its third attack consists of the slime jumping left and right with the player in the middle 8 / 9 / 10 / 11 times with each jump taking 0.83 / 0.75 / 0.66 / 0.58 seconds. While the slime is jumping, Goozma will slowly orbit the player while firing Hunt of the Old God/Slime BombSlime Bombs and spreads of telegraphed sparks inwards. Slime Bombs start off by summoning a harmless particle aura then detonate into an explosion which covers the area of the particles.
  • At the start of any attack, if the player is too far off the ground, the slime will jump onto the player’s head and harmlessly drag them towards the ground.

Stellar Geliath

  • For its first attack, the Stellar Geliath splits into a large number of stars along with a random scatter of damaging Hunt of the Old God/Star Bitdebris. The stars will then randomly form constellations with telegraphed lines of light between each three times. During this, Goozma will chase the player while rapidly spawning Hunt of the Old God/Slime BombSlime Bombs on itself that explode shortly after.
  • For its second attack, the Stellar Geliath propel itself upwards with fire then hover above the player for 1.83 / 1.5 / 1.16 / 1 seconds before slamming downwards and creating a large amount of Hunt of the Old God/Star BitStar Bits that explode outwards then fall downwards. The Star Bits will then reform together into the Stellar Geliath shortly after.
  • For its third attack, the slime will transform into a large black hole and pull damaging meteors of varying sizes into it from offscreen. During this, Goozma fires Hunt of the Old God/Slime ShotSlime Shots and Hunt of the Old God/Slime BombSlime Bombs at the player.

In Expert Mode

  • Goozma gains an entirely new set of attacks upon hitting 33% health and will stop summoning paladins.
    • Goozma moves towards the player while firing a slew of Hunt of the Old God/Slime ShotSlime Shots, Hunt of the Old God/Slime BombSlime Bombs, Hunt of the Old God/Bloated BlastBloated Blasts, and lightning bolts.
    • Goozma directly charges towards the player every 1.67 / 1.5 / 1.33 seconds 5 / 6 / 7 times, while firing Hunt of the Old God/Slime ShotSlime Shots, Hunt of the Old God/Slime BombSlime Bombs, and occasional Hunt of the Old God/Bloated BlastBloated Blasts.
    • Goozma slows down to a stop while firing all of its projectiles while shooting harmless mist towards the player. After several seconds, a large Fusion Ray will be fired outwards which revolves around Goozma while randomly changing direction every few seconds. During this, Goozma will also slowly shoot Hunt of the Old God/Slime BombSlime Bombs and Hunt of the Old God/Bloated BlastBloated Blasts.
    • Once Goozma reaches 10% health, it will slow down to a stop, then charge up and fire another Fusion Ray that follows the player. During this, Goozma will spawn Hunt of the Old God/GoozmiteGoozmites which persist for 6 seconds before despawning and healing Goozma for 400% of the mite’s remaining health. The Goozmites can be killed before this, preventing Goozma from healing and damaging it further.

The Goozmites will rapidly fire Rainbow Lasers towards the player. The player has 12.5 / 11.67 seconds to kill the Goozmites before any remaining Goozmites despawn and heal Goozma for 400% of their remaining health.
  • The Ebonian Behemuck’s first attack’s jumps last for 1.16 seconds instead of 1.66, and will jump 5 total times instead of 4.

Resistances

Goozma has a large amount of specific weapon resistances which all four paladins all share with it. A list goes as follows:

    • 90% damage from Ark of the Cosmos, Photon Ripper, and Spine of Thanatos.
    • 85% damage from all minions, Atlas Munitions Beacon, God Slayer Slugs, Holy Fire Bullets, Perdition, Prideful Hunter's Planar Ripper, Vehemence, and Wrathwing.
    • 80% damage from Heavenly Gale's lightning.
    • 75% damage from Primordial Ancient.
    • 70% damage from all true melee damage, Condemnation, and Dragon Scales' Infernadoes.
    • 65% damage from Dynamic Pursuer, and The Jailor.
    • 56% damage from Dragon Rage.
    • 50% damage from Dragon Pow, Excelsus, Heresy, and the Tainted enchantment's arms.
    • 30% damage from The Wand.
    • 20% damage from The Final Dawn.
    • 2.2% damage from Fabstaff.
    • 1% damage from Seraphim.
  • Additionally, Goozma disables all Point Blank damage. Goozmites take 90% damage from Celestus and 70% damage from Photon Ripper.

    Tips

For more elaborate strategies on defeating Goozma, including weapon and arena recommendations, see Guide:Goozma strategies.
    • Prioritize damaging Goozma itself; although the health pool is shared, attacking the paladins will only deal 75% damage and will waste the player’s time.
    • Homing weapons are not recommended during most of the attacks due to the projectiles homing in on the active paladin rather than Goozma. The exception is Stellar Geliath’s constellation attack, where projectiles can only target Goozma.
    • Setting the Dash Double Tap Override key is recommended to allow maneuvering Ebonian Behemuck and Divine Gargooptuar’s projectile attacks without accidentally dashing.
    • For the Ebonian Behemuck’s Ebonstone Teeth attack, flying upwards is much faster and more maneuverable than falling downwards when avoiding the telegraphed teeth.
    • Wings with the ability to hover are valuable for the Crimulan Glopstrosity’s attacks as well as Ebonian Behemuck’s orbiting attack, as to gain horizontal distance quickly.
    • During Divine Gargooptuar’s Pixie Ball attack, Goozma will always fire the Pixie Ball projectile at the player’s direction. Players should maximize the distance between themselves and the Divine Gargooptuar as soon as it appears. Standing inside the slime itself is not necessarily the safest option but can be viable in multiplayer.
      • It should also be noted that the unavoidable damage in this part on the getfixedboi seed means players should use up their Rage or Adrenaline bars as soon as possible.
    • It is recommended to stay close to Goozma during the Fusion Ray attack as to lessen the distance needed to outspeed the laser.

    Trivia

    • The Bestiary entry for Goozma: “A singularity of slimes assimilating to the point of criticality, engulfing an oversaturated core. It emits powerful pheromones that exert its will beyond its main body, affecting all slimes.”
      • For the Diving Gargooptuar: “A concentrated mass of resplendent divinity that ferociously defends its mucilaginous master with dazzling, flamboyant ardor. As extensions of its body, Goozma’s paladins possess only limited autonomy.”
      • For the Crimulan Glopstrosity: “A concentrated mass of visceral rot that ferociously defends its mucilaginous master with vicious, twisted fervor. Each of Goozma’s paladins coagulated individually from unique cores.”
      • For the Ebonian Behemuck: “A concentrated mass of virulent corrosion that ferociously defends its mucilaginous master with ruthless, determined zeal. Goozma’s paladins are deliberately spared from assimilation.”
      • For the Stellar Geliath: “A concentrated mass of empyrean infinity that ferociously defends its mucilaginous master with ethereal, unearthly vigor. Left alone, Goozma could assimilate all matter in the universe.”
      • For the Goozmite: “Not strictly an autonomous individual; rather, an amorphous portion of Goozma's body that has cellularly differentiated to siphon matter for slime self-replication. Goozma's slime is versatile and physically paradoxical, being an amalgamation of nearly every type of substance to exist.”
    • Goozma's first phase theme is Glutinous Arbiration, which is composed by the artist The ExiIed FeIIow.
    • If the Boss Checklist Mod is installed, its unique despawn message will be "The _ disintegrates" with _ being a random combination of nouns and adjectives from a set list.
      • There is a 2.5% chance for the death message to roll a "special" pre-determined title instead.
      • A full list of possible adjectives and nouns can be found below:

      • Some special titles are references:
        • True Slime God is a reference to the second phase that the Slime God had in very early versions of Calamity.
        • Ultimate Lifeform is a reference to Goozma's self-proclaimed title in his debut episode in the webseries, Calamity Paint.
        • Assortegelatin, Slimelgamation, Godfather, and Verboten One are all accessories that summon forms of the Slime God and Goozma, originating from Calamity: Community Remix.
    • The origins of Goozma’s concept as a boss date back to February 2018, and are inspired by the superboss Ozma from ‘’Final Fantasy IX’’. Goozma’s concept would gain popularity in the community as a boss to be eventually added, until the idea of a slime singularity was reworked in favor of Noxus.
    • Goozma’s four slimes are roughly based on the classes of each infection biome’s fishing weapon, the melee Bladetongue for Crimson, the ranged Toxikarp for Corruption, the magic Crystal Serpent for Hallow, and the rogue Gacruxian Mollusk for the Astral Infection.
      • This is more strictly reflected in Goozma’s drops along with Chromatic Mass’s weapon crafts, which are colored based on each respective class’ slime.
      • Even though there is no summoner fishing weapon, Goozma can be seen as the summoner of the boss fight as it controls the other slimes.
    • The Slimes in Goozma’s intro cutscene are as follows:
    • The slimes not included in the intro animation are non-hostile slimes and items which would not exist without player interference. This includes the Town Slimes, Slime Staff and slime-themed furniture.
    • The designs of Goozma and its paladins are inspired by several sources of media.
      • Goozma’s design is based on a fetal shape with a third eye and an umbilical cord-halo. The head spikes represent Goozma’s crown, following King and Queen slime. Its jellyfish-like shape was drawn as an interpretation of Jellyfish being the next stage of Slime evolution.
      • Goozma’s Gigablast projectile and Master Mode pet reference Octolings and their octopus forms from the ‘’Splatoon’’ series.
      • Goozma’s second phase Goozmite attack references the Flesh Prison from ‘’ULTRAKILL’’.
      • Goozma’s death animation is based on the Ender Dragon’s death animation from ‘’Minecraft’’.
        • Its death sound is similar to the Ender Dragon’s.
      • The blob particles that fall from Goozma when hit and when paladins are summoned is based on Infernum Moon Lord’s death animation blobs.
      • Two of Goozma’s rare fragments in the phase transition reference the game ‘’World of Goo’’ and the older spiral design of the Slime God Core.
        • The largest fragment references an animal cracker found in one of the developer’s soup.
      • Crimulan Glopstrosity’s slime design is based on the Crimslime enemy.
      • The ninja inside the Crimulan Glopstrosity is the same ninja from inside King Slime, its design being based on the achievement icon.
      • Ebonian Behemuck’s slime design references Glurch from the game ‘’Core Keeper.’’
        • The large eyeball as one of its cores was inspired by cow eyes.
        • The droopy eyeball is a reference to The Hive Mind from the webseries, ‘’Calamity Paint’’.
        • The teeth ball was inspired by the Eternity Devil from ‘’Chainsaw Man’’, but coincidentally resembles the doors from ULTRAKILL’s Gluttony layer.
        • An older design of the Dank Creeper is also referenced as a crying, thorned eye as one of the cores.
      • In place of its sparkles, the lower left of Divine Gargooptuar’s body gains an exclamation point when its shield is broken.
      • Gargooptuar is a reference to Gargantuars from ‘’Plants vs Zombies’’.
      • The Divine Gargooptuar’s Prism Destroyers take their name from a placeholder name for XM-07 Thanatos, the Prism Destroyer.
      • Divine Gargooptuar’s core is based on Queen Slime’s inner crystal, with a sphere formed around the original structure. Although coincidental, similar real life rock formations can be found in the Valley of Balls in Kazakhstan.
      • Stellar Slime’s bits reference both Star Bits from the ‘’Super Mario Galaxy’’ series and the Green Gem from ‘’Bejeweled’’.
      • Although Stellar Geliath’s visual theme overlaps with the Astral Infection and Astrageldon Slime, it exists uniquely as its own.
    • The Ebonian Behemuck’s tooth telegraphs, Crimulan Glopstrosity’s stomp telegraph, and Divine Gargooptuar’s Prism Destroyer telegraphs sample parts of their respective biome’s themes.
      • The Stellar Geliath instead samples part of the Astral Meteor’s crash sound.
    • The Divine Gargooptuar was originally going to reuse Queen Slime’s wings, but were changed to fully original wings due to mixed reception of the Infernum Mod’s reuse of Queen Slime wings for Terminus.
    • In certain seeds, Goozma’s color palette will change.
      • On a Drunk World, it will randomly choose from one of the following color palettes:
        • Its default color palette.
        • A light green nuclear palette.
        • A golden palette.
        • A grayscale palette.
