Void (Secrets Of The Shadows)
Void is a resource consumed by the player when using void weapons. Each void weapon has a specific void cost that depletes the player's void on use, similar to Mana. If a player's void falls into the negative, they will hear a sound and gain the Void Shock debuff for 10 seconds (20 seconds if the Void Anomaly is equipped), which causes the player to rapidly lose life. Unlike Mana, void weapons can still be used during this time. After the Void Shock debuff ends, they will gain the Void Recovery debuff for 3 seconds, which will drain their life even faster, prevent them from using void weapons, and regenerate a portion of their void.
Similar to player Health and Mana, the player's current void supply and capacity are represented by a meter: a purple bar displayed near the top-center edge of the screen, though this can be configured in the mod's settings. The bar always has the player's current and maximum void displayed numerically as well as the bar.
Below the initial bar, there is a second green bar that displays when your void will next recharge (approx. 15 seconds in-between charges at base speed), at which time you will regain an amount of void equivalent to your void gain stat. This bar fills faster with a higher void regeneration speed percent.
Each character starts with 100 void capacity. Using Voiden Ankhs increase the player's void capacity by 20 permanently, as well as increasing their void regeneration speed by 2%; this can be done up to 5 times. Additionally, a Violet or Scarlet Crescent can further increase a player's maximum void capacity, depending on if the world contains The_Corruption or The_Crimson.
Void capacity, void gain, and void regeneration speed can be increased further through the use of various Armors such as Vibrant armor or certain Accessories. Additionally, several new reforges can affect maximum void or void gan.
Certain enemies can drain void on hit; this usually applies to enemies that are associated with nighttime, such as Werewolves, or that are associated with Corruption or Crimson, such as Eaters of Souls.
Void weapons are not exclusive to any specific class, and come formatted as "Void + X damage", where X is either melee, magic, ranged, or summon damage; a void weapon's damage can benefit from either void damage increase or external damage increases. For example, a Rose Bow with the benefits of Shroomite armor will still get the proper damage benefits from the armor, including the Shroomite Headgear and stealth set bonus. This makes void weapons extremely versatile and usable by any player, even if they are only using void sparingly.
Boost gear
To use void weapons more often, certain items can increase maximum void, void gain, void regeneration speed, or reduce the cost of using void weapons.

Refilling Void
Void regenerates at a slow but constant rate, regardless of whether or not it is in use. The only factors that affect natural void regeneration are void regeneration speed and the Void Shock/Void Recovery debuffs.
This means that, unlike Mana, it is possible to have a very large pool of void and still refill it at a very slow rate. There is no difference between a bar that has 10 void vs. a bar that has 100, other than how close the bar is to reaching the negative. Note that for the debuffs, reaching 0 void is safe; it is going below 0 void that causes the debuff to activate.
Note that most weapons that need to be charged do not expend any void until the weapon actually fires; this means that, as an example, beginning to use the Putrid Eye (assuming a 20 void cost) while at 17 void is safe if a recharge is about to happen, so long as you carefully time it so that you won't be afflicted with the Void Shock debuff.
Several items can be used to refill void:
Item | Instant void regeneration | Notes |
---|---|---|
Almond Milk | 20 void | |
Avocado Soup | 24 void | Also gives Regeneration for 60 seconds |
Chocolate | 15 void | |
Coconut Milk | 30 void | |
Cooked Mushroom | 13 void | Causes temporary poison |
Cursed Caviar | 40% 20 / 35% 15 / 25% 10 void | Also gives 40% Well Fed / 35% Mana Regeneration / 25% Battle for 90 seconds |
Digital Corn Syrup | 15 void | |
Foul Concoction | 4 void | |
Strawberry Icecream | 50% 10 / 50% 6 void | Also spawns either 1 or 2 ice shards, depending on the amount of void |
Void Drain
Some enemies can reduce void by certain amount when the player get him by them. Certain vanilla NPCs always drain void with a 1/5 (20%)/1/3 (33%) chance during daytime or 1/2 (50%) chance during nighttime.
