Pre-Mechanical Bosses

Entering Hardmode heavily expands gear options for every class. You can now enter the Catacombs to fight all their Mini Bosses for plentiful resources and Weapons/Accessories. You can fight the Queen Slime and STARBOMBER for more gear options. You can also kill Irradia to unlock the Green Sun event in the Virulent. Various biome changes occur too, The Hallow spawns and new enemies spawn in the Abysm and Virulent that drop the new Eldritch Soul and Contaminated Soul materials.

Pre-Plantera

Defeating the Mechanical Bosses allows you to get Hallowed Gear and causes Life Fruit to spawn in the Jungle. You can also fight the Irradiated Nest and Sylia for more gear as well as surviving the Solar Eclipse. You can also craft the Pickaxe Axe to mine Chlorophyte Ore.

Pre-Golem

Defeating Plantera now no longer gives you the Temple Key, instead giving you a Temple Key Mold, you now have to make a Temple Key Part and combine the two pieces together. You should enter the Illuria Outposts for their chest loot and Illurine Scales. The new Tulacrowe enemy spawns in the Virulent. You can fight Zui The Radiance for various final gear upgrades and unlocking the Ishtar. After Zui you can enter the Ishtar, allowing you to get various Gear from its Chests and to do the quest for Ereshkigal to get the Voidal Passageway to summon the Supernova Fragment. The Supernova Fragment also gives good gear as well as the Temple Key Part to finally craft the Temple Key. You can now enter the Temple and fight Golem.
