Notes

  • Since the Direct Hit uses local immunity frames, a single rocket can hit and damage multiple enemies simultaneously.
  • Rockets have a slower velocity than bullets.

Strategies

  • The Direct Hit is one of the best weapons for dealing medium to long-ranged damage.
    • The increased rocket speed makes it less likely to miss without focus shot.
    • Since this weapon supports focus shot, the Soldier can fire homing rockets and stop worrying about missing his target.
    • The Soldier may want to switch to his close-ranged weapon, like the Shotgun if he is worried about getting self-damaged from his rockets' explosions.
  • Rocket jumping is an easy and fun way of moving around.
    • However, the Soldier must keep track of his health to avoid accidentally blowing himself up.
    • Be wary as the Direct Hit deals slightly more self-damage.
  • The Direct Hit's single reload style can diminish damage output. Therefore, it's important for the Soldier to know when to reload.
  • Rockets can only hit a single enemy (not including the explosion, which have a small splash radius). This means the Direct Hit shouldn't be relied upon for crowd control.
    • The decreased splash radius practically makes it a single-target weapon only.
    • Soldier must be careful of using this weapon against bosses consisting of multiple segments or summoned minions.

Trivia

  • The Direct Hit, like other explosive weapons in the Team Fortress 2 mod, originally had the ability to damage friendly NPCs.
    • However, this was changed due to the addition of the Flymeal.
