The Temple Curse in action

The Temple Curse is a special mini event that occurs if the player has one of the following items in their inventory before defeating Plantera:

Storm's Additions Mod/Lihzahrd SawbladeLihzahrd Sawblade Storm's Additions Mod/Lihzahrd FlamerLihzahrd Flamer Storm's Additions Mod/Lihzahrd Flameburst TomeLihzahrd Flameburst Tome Storm's Additions Mod/Lihzahrd Guardian StaffLihzahrd Guardian Staff Storm's Additions Mod/Lihzahrd Chief ArmorLihzahrd Chief Armor (Any piece)

Immediately upon picking up any of the above items it will begin the temple curse with the message "The curse of temple item in your possession activates!!!" appearing as a status message and above the player's head. There are 3 stages the the curse which change every 4 seconds;

  • Stage 1: The player is inflicted with the effects of darknessdarkness and bleedingbleeding debuffs.
  • Stage 2: The Darkness effect is replaced with the effect of BlackoutBlackout and the player is also inflicted with the effects of the slowslow debuff.
  • Stage 3: The Blackout effect is replaced with ObstructedObstructed, and up to 6 invincible Storm's Additions Mod/Temple GuardianTemple Guardians will spawn. These have the exact same attack pattern as they do when spawned naturally.

Additionally if the player attempts to use or equip any of the cursed items they will be inflicted with Storm's Additions Mod/Temple Curse BurnTemple Curse Burn debuff which drains 100 health per second and lasts either as long as the items use animation or for however long the armour is equipped.

The Temple Guardians will continuously attack the player until they die or they remove the item from their inventory, in which case they cease attacking and fly downwards until they despawn.

The only way to remove the curse is to remove the item(s) from the player's inventory to either a chest or simply throwing them on the ground. The player will also need to remove the Storm's Additions Mod/Temple Guardian MinionTemple Guardian Minion minion buff if they've activated it. Once the curse is removed all the debuffs will be immediately removed, and the Temple Guardians will cease attacking and fly downwards, but will resume attacking if the player picks up the item again before they despawn.

Notes

  • This event was added as it is very easy to gain early access to the Jungle Temple and obtain the weapons long before they are supposed to be obtained. This heavily limits the effectiveness of the weapons until the player defeats Plantera.
  • All items that trigger this event will have an additional tooltip saying "Inflicted with a strange curse, pick up at your own risk!".
  • The Guardian Staff minion buff will have the tooltip line "Is inflicting a strange curse, dismiss to remove it!" when the curse is active.
  • When Plantera is defeated the status message "The ancient temple's curse has been lifted" will appear.
  • If the player defeats the Plantera while under the effects of the curse, the curse will be lifted however the temple guardians will continue to attack the player, however they will now be vulnerable to damage.
  • If the player is killed when the curse is active, it will immediately start again as soon as they respawn.
  • If the player teleports away when the curse is active, more temple Guardians will spawn at the player's new location, regardless of the biome.
  • The player is not directly inflicted with Darkness, Bleeding, Slow, or blackout, but rather only gain the effects of them.
  • The curse can be disbaled via the config menu, but it won't prevent the Temple Curse Burn debuff when an item is used/equipped.

Trivia

  • This event used to be activated by simply entering the temple pre plantera, but was eventually changed due to negative reception.
    • The only buff it used to inflict was the obstructed debuff, and the temple guardians were not invincible, but killing one would just spawn another in its place.
  • One of the secret tips added in this mod nudges the player towards this event.
