Cursed Pyramid (Secrets Of The Shadows)

The Cursed Pyramid is a Structure generated on world creation, being located in the Desert, although it cannot be entered until after the Eater of Worlds or the Brain of Cthulhu is defeated. It contains unique enemies, traps, and the Pharaoh's Curse boss.

The Pyramid begins at an above-ground entrance at the top of the pyramid and extends far into the Underground Desert. The Pyramid Gate is initially locked, requiring a Mysterious Key to open, which is dropped by the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu. Unlocking the Pyramid Gate consumes the Mysterious Key from the player's inventory, and the door remains permanently unlocked for all players in the world. If the player manages to enter the Pyramid without defeating one of the two bosses, they will be inflicted with the Pharaoh's Curse debuff, which will rapidly drain their health until they leave or die.

The Pyramid's entrance leads to several diagonal and horizontal paths containing occasional chambers with various loot. The Pyramid's paths are occasionally obstructed by Infected Pyramid Brick, which will need to be mined to continue. Additionally, there are several other hazards, such as spike floors and ceilings.

Additionally, cursed tumors spawn throughout the Pyramid, occasionally disrupting the otherwise manmade appearance of the Pyramid. These tumors can often lead to rooms containing Keystone Shards and Ruby Keystones. Attempting to mine the keystones will spawn up to 5 waves of enemies which must be defeated in order to collect the crystal. Collecting three of these keystones will allow the player to unlock the Ancient Gold Pillar to the Sarcophagus Chamber and challenge the Pharaoh's Curse boss.

• Attempting to enter a Cursed Pyramid with the Mysterious Key before the Eater of Worlds or the Brain of Cthulhu is defeated will not unlock the door.
  • Additionally, despite the blocks requiring a pickaxe power of 110% to mine, the blocks cannot be mined if the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu is not defeated.
