Starting the Metroid Mod

The beginning process of the Metroid Mod is generally the same as Vanilla Terraria up to a certain point.
Mainly, you will need to gather enough resources, weapons, and armor to be able to defeat the Eye of Cthulhu.

First Steps

A vein of Chozite ore underground.
A Chozo Statue holding a Charge Beam.
  • During your starting exploration, you will come across Chozite Ore, Chozo Statues, and Missile Expansions.
    • Chozite Ore can be mined with a pickaxe that has at least 50% pickaxe power.
    • Chozite Statues that are generated in the world can be mined with any pickaxe, and will also provide you with Chozite Ore when broken.
    • Chozite Statues will always hold an item in their hands, often being a component for a suit addon or beam addon. Save these for later as you find them.
    • Missile Expansions are found by themselves randomly within the world - below the surface layer. Save these for later as you find them.

Fighting the Eye of Cthulhu

You will eventually need Crimtane or Demonite bars in order to craft the Power Suit, so defeating this boss can be a good first goal.
Chozite Armor can be crafted using a total of 75 Chozite Ore, and provides slightly more defense than Tungsten Armor, making it a decent option to fight the boss. The only item that is able to be crafted at this point is the Morph Ball, which may not necessarily help with the fight, but does reduce your overall size. Generally, defeat the Eye of Cthulhu as normal before moving on.

The Chozo Ruins and fighting Torizo

The Chozo Ruins are a structure that is generated on the surface of the Desert biome. It can easily be entered through the Blue Hatches which function as normal doors and can also be shot to be opened.
Inside the structure you will find several things:

Near the end of the structure is a room with a Save Station - which functions the same as a bed. In the next room is Torizo. Defeat Torizo to obtain Energy Shards - a resource that will be required for many initial Metroid craftables.

Crafting the Power Beam

Using 8 Chozite Bars and 3 Energy Shards, you can craft the Power Beam.
Ideally this can also currently be improved by items you have acquired throughout the world that can be slotted into the weapon, such as Charge Beam, ShockCoil, and Judicator.
This weapon's capabilities will also be improved by obtaining the Power Suit - this armor will require Tissue Samples or Shadow Scales, so you will need to defeat the Eater of Worlds or the Brain of Cthulhu.
Charge Beam, Wave Beam, and Spazer Beam can all help with either fight, and can be found in the Chozo Statues throughout the world.

Crafting the Power Suit

The UI of the Power Suit.

In order to make the Power Suit you will need to first craft at least 3 Energy Tanks.

  • Energy Tanks can be crafted with Energy Shards, 1 Chozite Bar, 1 Crimtane/Demonite Bar, and 10 Tissue Samples/Shadow Scales.
  • Once you have the Energy Tanks, you can then make each piece of the Power Suit using the respective armor piece (Helmet, Chestplate, Grieves), 1 Energy Tank, and a certain amount of Crimtane/Demonite Bars. You will require 45 total of these bars to craft all of the Power Suit.
  • The Power Suit functions like the Power Beam and Morph Ball in terms of addons. You can equip various Barriers, Primary Suits and additional Energy Tanks and Reserve tanks using the Suit Addons UI box.

One of the most helpful tools for discovering and crafting items is the Magic Storage mod. This will provide you will all of the possible addons and weapons you can craft from the Metroid Mod.

Congratulations, you should now be well on your way to becoming a successful hunter! Continue to explore the world to find more Missile Expansions and Beam Addons.
You can even craft the Missile Launcher and Hi Jump Boots! Good luck!
