Torizo is a Pre-Hardmode boss, intended to be fought after the Eye of Cthulhu and before the Eater of Worlds or Brain of Cthulhu, but can be accessed very early on in a new world.
It is the first boss of the Metroid Mod.

Spawn

Upon world creation, Torizo can be found in the final chamber of the Chozo Ruins holding an Energy Tank. Getting too close causes the energy tank to burst, releasing a cluster of yellow orbs that soon fly into the idle Torizo, awakening it and beginning the fight. It can also be summoned anywhere with an Inactive Torizo sold by the Chozo Ghost.

Behavior

When Torizo awakens, standing up from its statue-like pose, it will pursue the player. If, by any chance, the player walks far away enough from Torizo and blocks are in the way, it will clip through them to still pursue the player. Walking too far away from it will cause it to despawn.

If Torizo's head is destroyed before its body, it will gain speed, walking quicker.

If the player stands still above Torizo, such as on a platform, it will attempt to leap up toward the player, around 15 blocks in height.

Attacks

  • Shoots out orb bombs that explode upon impact of a player or tile. If shot at, it will drop Energy, Missles, and Hearts
  • If you get too close, one of the following will occur:
    • Will leap back from the player and spew out orb bombs.
    • Will swipe at the player twice. If the player is still in the way, it will leap back and spew out orb bombs as well.
  • If the player is at a distance (both with a head and not), it will swipe, sending yellow energy waves from either the top or lower half of its body (which depends on where the player is positioned).
    • The number of waves it expels is either; 2, 4, 6, or 8.
  • If you get too close (or stand at any distance) with its head destroyed, it will leap back (only when up close) and send yellow energy waves, as that is its only form of attack. (The number and position of waves it expels are the same as mentioned.)

Aftermath

  • The Chozo Ghost will emerge from the defeated Torizo.

Tips

  • The Morph Ball can be used to easily move under the Torizo's legs, allowing you to escape its grasp if you find yourself cornered (such as in an enclosed space like the final chamber of the Chozo Ruins).

Trivia

  • Torizo originates from the SNES' Super Metroid. Instead of holding an Energy Tank as portrayed in the mod, in Super Metroid, it has an item sphere, which upon being shot at, will reveal Morph Ball Bombs for Samus to obtain. Shortly after, the room's door will seal and turn gray, locking Samus in. Then the Torizo shows its true form by shedding off its metallic grey shell opening its eyes, standing up, and attacking Samus, which is also portrayed in the mod.
  • Torizo's theme, respectively named Torizo Theme, was composed by Paradoxx Productions.
    • The theme resembles some similarity to AM2R's Torizo theme, Battle! Torizo, which, funnily enough, in itself is a remix of Metroid Prime 2's Chykka Larva Theme.
