Ancient Phantasmal armor is a Hardmode melee armor set consisting of the Ancient Phantasmal Headgear, the Ancient Phantasmal Robe and the Ancient Phantasmal Subligar, which serves as a post-Ocram upgrade to the Ancient Hallowed armor, made with the addition of 
Adamantite or 
Titanium Bars, 
Souls of Fright, and 
Souls of Blight.
There exists also a Phantasmal armor set. The items are functionally identical and they can be mixed and matched without losing the set bonus; the differences are mostly cosmetic as well as in which crafting station is used to create them. The Shimmer can transmute a piece back and forth between its regular and "ancient" version.
A full set of Ancient Phantasmal armor provides the following benefits:
- +40 defense
- +150 mana
- +30% magic damage
- +10% magic critical strike chance
- +12% movement speed
- Siphons mana out of nearby enemies
Additionally, if the full set is visible the player will have a pulsating outline, similar to Adamantite armor.
Spectral aura
The set bonus effect is referred to as "spectralAura" in the code. The way it works is that when the player has less than 75% of maximum mana, three "spectral spirits" are summoned by the armor, creating this spectral aura. If there are NPCs (that are neither friendly, dead, nor invulnerable) in the aura, a "mana drain" effect appears that gives the player between 5 and 13 points of mana. The drain has a cooldown of 333 milliseconds (20 frames).

Spectral armor, not phantasmal armor. The name change in Consolaria is probably to differentiate it more from 
Spectre armor.
