Ancient Dragon armor is a Hardmode melee armor set consisting of the Ancient Dragon Mask, the Ancient Dragon Breastplate and the Ancient Dragon Greaves, which serves as a post-Ocram upgrade to the Ancient Hallowed armor, made with the addition of 
Adamantite or 
Titanium Bars, 
Souls of Might, and 
Souls of Blight.
There exists also a Dragon armor set. The items are functionally identical and they can be mixed and matched without losing the set bonus; the differences are mostly cosmetic as well as in which crafting station is used to create them. The Shimmer can transmute a piece back and forth between its regular and "ancient" version.
A full set of Ancient Dragon armor provides the following benefits:
- +56 defense
- +30% melee damage
- +25% critical strike chance
- +30% melee speed
- +20% movement speed
- Creates a burst of flames after taking damage
Additionally, if the full set is visible the player will have an afterimage, similar to Necro armor.
Shadowflame Burst
The set bonus effect is referred to as "dragonBurst" in the code. The way it works is that when the player gets hurt, the armor starts shooting shadowflame burst projectiles every five frames for a half-second (30 frames), so six of such projectiles. These shadowflame bursts deal 180 melee damage, and can penetrate infinitely but halves their damage for each subsequent target, rounding down (so 90 damage to the second, 45 to the third, 22 to the fourth, 11 to the fifth, and so on). Each target also receives the Shadowflame debuff for five seconds (300 frames).
