The Essence of Mana is a Pre-Hardmode accessory. It increases your maximum mana by half of your current maximum mana and reduces mana usage by 9%, which results in great scaling for anything related to mana.

Not only does an increase to maximum mana allow you to cast magic longer, it also increases the rate at which you regenerate mana, indirectly increasing your dps potential over multiple bursts.
