Dark Souls are a crafting material dropped by most enemies that can drop Coins. They are used to craft almost all of the items in the mod.
Calculations
Most enemies drop souls according to the amount of coins they drop. The exceptions are noted below.
- Step 1: Calculate the enemy's multiplier:
enemy multiplier
starts at 1.- If the enemy is Soulstruck,
enemy multiplier
is set to 0.9
- If the enemy is Soulstruck,
- Step 2: Calculate the base value using the following formula:
base value = coin value / (enemy multiplier × difficulty)
coin value
is how many coins the enemy drops (in copper coins).difficulty
is 10 on Classic Mode and 25 on Expert Mode or Master Mode.
- Step 3: Calculate the player's multiplier (in multiplayer, this is the player that got the killing blow):
player multiplier
starts at 1- If the player is wearing a Covetous Silver Serpent Ring or Covetous Soul Serpent Ring,
player multiplier
is increased by 0.2. - If the player has the Soul Siphon buff,
player multiplier
is increased by 0.2. - If the player is wearing the Symbol Of Avarice
player multiplier
is increased by 0.4. - If the player has Bearer of the Curse mode enabled,
player multiplier
is increased by 0.2.
- If the player is wearing a Covetous Silver Serpent Ring or Covetous Soul Serpent Ring,
- Step 4: The final soul value is calculated using the base value and player multiplier:
dark soul quantity = base value × player multiplier
- Step 5: If the enemy is a Boss:
- If this is the first time the boss has been killed in this world, it will drop Dark Souls with the announcement "The souls of [boss name] have been released!". Otherwise,
dark soul quantity
is set to 0.- On Expert Mode and Master Mode, the souls are added to each player's Treasure Bag instead.
- Exceptions
- Some enemies drop different amounts of souls than expected:
- Green Slimes drop 1 extra soul. This value is not affected by any multipliers.
- Red Slimes drop 2 extra souls. This value is not affected by any multipliers.
- Jungle Slimes always have a base value of 10.
- Living Shrooms and Living Glowshrooms drop exactly 1 soul, despite dropping zero coins. This value is not affected by any multipliers.
Trivia
- Despite having Lime rarity, Dark Souls have a display color of #00FF50.
