Serris is a Pre-Hardmode boss intended to be fought after Skeletron and before Deerclops.

Spawn

Serris doesn't spawn naturally and can only be summoned with the Serris Bait at the Ocean.

Behavior

Once summoned, Serris will emerge from the water in a Speed Boosted state, charging toward the player and invulnerable to any attacks. Serris will calm down into a normal state after 8 seconds and be vulnerable to attack on its head. Getting Serris to half of its health will cause it to transform into a Core-X, its head detaching from its collapsing body, spinning intensely, and breaking apart into its Core-X form. When in its Core-X form, attacking it will cause it to become invulnerable for 3 seconds before becoming vulnerable again. If the player were to leave the Ocean, Serris still pursues the player and doesn't despawn unless it happens to be outrun, such as using a Recall Potion, which it will then despawn.

Attacks

  • If attacked in a normal state, it will become stunned shortly and proceed to become Speed Boosted and attempt to charge at the player, taking lunges from underneath, retreating underwater, and attempting again.
  • When Serris becomes a Core-X, its only attack is dealing contact damage to the player.

Tips

Serris can best be avoided by using a quick burst movement option while standing above the water. This can be done with either a Water Walking Potion, Water Walking Boots (additionally that can include Terraspark Boots too), or by building a platform bridge across the top of the water.
Ideally, you could then use the quick sideways movement options provided by a Shield of Cthulhu in Expert Mode, or the Sense Move function of the Power Suit.

When fighting Serris, consider looking at the minimap during the first phase. This will allow you to determine exactly where Serris is coming from below the water, allowing you to dash in a direction accordingly.
As Serris comes up from the water, dash toward his direction to bypass his attack. If you dash away from him, he will likely be able to adjust his course in time to be able to hit you. Additionally, you can also add in a jump with your dash, especially if he isn't lunging straight up from the water.
As you avoid his attacks, wait until he stops flashing and becomes a solid color. This will allow you to land an attack on his head, at which point he will continue his charging attacks.
Repeat until he reaches his second phase.

Generally, the second phase is much easier than the first. The movement of the core is slow and should be able to be avoided with most movement options.
Attacking the core will also push it back slightly, giving you time to be able to avoid its following slow charge toward you while it is invincible.

Trivia

  • Serris originates from the GBA's Metroid Fusion. In the game, Serris holds the Speed Booster ability, obtained when Samus absorbs Serris' Core-X upon defeat, much like how it is portrayed in the mod, but as a crafting ingredient rather than instantly obtaining the ability upon absorption.
  • Serris' theme, respectively named Serris Theme, was composed by Paradoxx Productions.
  • Currently, Serris is the only boss that requires a biome to be summoned in; the ocean, while other bosses can be summoned in any biome.
