This article is about the pre-Hardmode boss. For the weapons this boss drops, see Lad and Lil' Lad.

Lad is a Pre-Hardmode boss. He is meant to be one of the first bosses faced, fought after King Slime.

While Lad is alive, the music Boss 1 will play. When Otherworldly music is enabled, the track Boss 1 (Otherworldly) will play instead.

Spawn

Lad is summoned by using a Lad Statue. The Lad Statue can be found by placing anything in an Extractinator, with a 1 in 100 for the statue to appear.

Behavior

• When reaching 50% health, Lad will try to split and turn into 2 Lil' Lads. When both Lil' Lads die, Lad will return with the health he had before splitting.

Attacks

Lad

• Lad will shoot 2 Heart Bubbles that home in on the player after a short while.
• After that, if the player isn't vertically far, Lad will do a spin charge towards the player.
• After that, regardless of whether the spin happened, Lad will jump 3 times towards the player. After this attack, Lad will perform the Heart Bubble attack and the cycle will restart.

In Expert Mode

• When below 50% health, all attacks will be slightly sped up, with attacks being shorter and projectiles being faster.

Lil' Lad

• If Lil' Lad has an alive twin, he will cycle between jumping towards the player twice, doing a spin charge and shooting a Heart Bubble.
• If Lil' Lad has no alive twin, he will cycle between jumping towards the player twice and doing a spin charge.
