Luna Trophy (Anarchist Mod).png "A spirit from the cosmos." Luna Trophy (Anarchist Mod).png

Luna is a pre-Hardmode boss that can be fought in Space during the night. Luna can be fought at any point in the game, although she is intended to be fought after or between the Eater of Worlds and Brain of Cthulhu. She is on relatively the same tier as Drakon.

Defeating Luna will allow meteorites to land.

Spawn

Luna can be summoned manually using Moon Sugar on the Celestial Altar found generated in the primary moon temple. Moon Sugar can be found in any chest generated in any moon temple. It can also be crafted after Luna has been defeated at least once, as it requires Moon Dust as an ingredient.

Although she can be spawned anywhere at any time, it is recommended to spawn her in Space during the night. As she will enrage outside those conditions.

Upon her initial spawning, she will fade in from the background.

Behavior

Luna will move faster and become more aggressive as she loses health. Luna has two subphases, both mostly similar, and will progress through them as she loses health.

Leaving Space causes Luna to take 100% less damage. If Luna is alive during the day, her defense will increase by 10 points and she will deal double damage and attack significantly more aggressively.

Attacks

Subphase 1

  • Luna will position herself above and to the left or right of the target and cause Anarchist Mod/Starfallstars to rain in a spaced pattern from the sky. These stars will first show a preview of where they are coming down from.
  • Luna will begin releasing Anarchist Mod/Moon Flaremoon flares that spin around sporadically.
  • After releasing her flares, Luna will become fatigued. Her crown will stop glowing, her eyes will close, and she will remain motionless for 5 seconds. During this time her defense will decrease by 10 points and she will take an additional 30% damage from all sources.
  • Luna will begin flying above the target and summoning Star Portals that fire Anarchist Mod/Moon Flaremoon flares inward.
  • Luna will move to the side of the target and begin firing Anarchist Mod/Starfallstars toward the target.

Subphase 2

  • Transitions at 50% / 65% / 75% health.
  • Cycles through all previous attacks.
  • After the starfall attack, Luna will slow down and begin conjuring a Anarchist Mod/Luna Moonmoon. The moon will rotate through the phases, eventually landing on a particular phase. This phase indicates which directions the moon will fire Anarchist Mod/Moon Wavewaves of energy. While conjuring the moon, Luna will take 80% less damage.

In Expert Mode

  • Overall moves faster.
  • Summons 4 rains of stars instead of 3.
  • Fires more moon flares.
  • While slowly follow the target while summoning moon flares.
  • Will take 100% less damage while conjuring the moon instead of 80%.

In Master Mode

  • Overall moves faster.
  • Summons 5 rains of stars instead of 3.
  • Fires more moon flares.
  • Luna will only be fatigued for 3 seconds, opposed to the standard 5 seconds.
  • Starfall projectiles will move faster.
  • Summons more star portals.

In Pandemonium Mode

  • Does not become fatigued.

Notes

  • Fallen Stars will not damage Luna, and instead will heal her for 25% of her missing health.
  • Only one Luna can be summoned at a time. Nothing will happen if the altar is interacted with while Luna is still present.

Tips

  • It may be useful to put a roof of solid blocks above the arena to stop falling stars from healing Luna.
  • Similarly, it may be useful to put a floor of solid blocks to prevent you from falling out of space.
  • Standing far away or directly underneath Luna while she is conjuring the moon can make it easier to dodge the projectiles.
  • Star portals can be easily dodged by simply moving horizontally in one consistent direction.
  • Luna's defense is quite high for a pre-Hardmode boss. This is to emphasize attacking during her fatigued phase, however armor penetration may be useful when fighting her.

Trivia

  • The BestiaryBestiary entry for the Luna: "Taken hostage and forced to marry an eldritch being, this minor moon spirit does not take too kindly to those that disturb her."
  • Luna's theme is Galactic Threat, which is composed by beanieswag.
    • If the Anarchist Music add-on is disabled, Empress of Light will play instead.
  • If the Boss Checklist Mod is installed, its unique despawn message will be "Luna retreats to the cosmos."
