Ice biome (special arena)

The Infected Incarnate is a pre-Hardmode boss that can only be fought once you have obtained the Shriek of Horror, fought in her own unique arena which generates in the Snow biome. The boss appears to be humanoid and can teleport both herself and the player around her arena, briefly obscuring your entire screen. For the duration of the boss fight, your screen is also locked in place.

Upon defeating the boss, you will obtain the Blink Dash ability.

Spawning

Manual

To fight the Infected Incarnate, you must first obtain the Shriek of Horror and find her arena. In the room where you find a "Memorial Coffin", use the Shriek of Horror and, after a brief musical intro, the boss will spawn and the battle will begin.

Random

The Infected Incarnate cannot spawn naturally and must be summoned manually (see above).

Behavior

As soon as the fight starts, the Infected Incarnate will begin randomly cycling through her list of attacks. She cannot use the same attack twice in a row and is guaranteed to use every attack each cycle.

In between each attack, she will reposition both you and herself. You can use this to your advantage by paying attention to where each attack places you relative to her.

Attacks

  • Repeatedly dashes up and down, creating vertical, lingering slashes that restrict your movement.
    • These get faster and higher in number as her health gets lowered and below a certain health threshold (around 60% HP) they will begin to cut you off once, further constraining your movement.
  • Positions both you and herself at different points in the arena, and then simply walk towards you, acting as a break from the action.
    • At lower health boulders will also rain from the ceiling, preventing you from standing still.
  • Drops down from above and does a single long dash attack.
    • Under 50% HP she will teleport to the other side in the middle of falling to trick you.
  • Repeatedly teleports around the arena (including the ceiling) and slashes with her sword, creating slash projectiles.
    • These will increase in number and speed as the fight progresses.
    • Although her teleporting is mostly random, she can never teleport on top of you or too close to you. As a result, you always have an opportunity to dodge all of the slash projectiles.
  • Teleports you close to her and uses Shriek of Horror, sucking you towards her and causing a ring of projectiles to close in on you. This will also drain your terror meter a small amount.

Notes

  • Although the Infected Incarnate is intended to be fought before the Eye of Cthulhu (as indicated by the Boss Checklist mod), she could be considered a much more difficult fight.
    • On Twilight Mode, however, the Blink Dash is highly effect against the Eye of Cthulhu, and is thus recommended to be obtained first.
  • The attack where she simply walks towards you/rains boulders from the ceiling can be a fantastic opportunity to use highly damaging close range weapons.
    • The Shriek of Horror attack can be as well, though it is a bit more risky.
  • A Boost Relic is highly effective at dodging a few of the bosses attacks, especially the Shriek of Horror.

Trivia

  • When killed, the boss is referred to in the chat as "Stiria", likely in reference to her name before she was experimented on.
