Acheron is a Hardmode boss. It's tier in progression is right after Queen Slime. It can be summoned manually with Hatred when it's set to summon Acheron, or pressing the Challenge button from the Shape Shifter.

Behavior

Acheron summons four arms (two claws and two cannons) to attack the player after 10 seconds if there are no arms alive (if at least 1 arm is alive, it will not summon any more).

Acheron will cycle through the next list of attack since it spawns:

(Acheron will scream everytime it goes into a different attack)

  • Acheron shoots projectiles in a clockwise spinning motion, they will flip towards the opposite direction they were shot towards after 2 seconds.
  • Acheron summons a rune that rotates around the player, after a few seconds this rune will disappear and summon a gigant pillar of light.
  • Acheron summons 8 spinning saws, 4 spinning clockwise and 4 spinning counter-clockwise, that don't damage the player for 3.33 seconds, the saws will extend outward and then return to where they spawned.
  • Acheron repeats it's first attack, but this time it will spin in counter-clockwise.
  • Acheron summons an artifact at the player's location, that will cause a rain of projectiles to fall above it, serving as a wall to the player.
  • Acheron shoots very quickly homing orbs that move towards the player.

After this cycle of attacks is over and there's still arms present, Acheron will take 5 seconds to heal 50% HP, in intervals of 5% HP every half a second. If no arms are present, Acheron will instead do nothing for the 5 seconds it could take to heal.

  • If Acheron began healing, you can still destroy the arms to stop it from healing more.

Tips

  • Acheron moves very slowly, so sticking close to it do dish out as much damage as possible is a good strategy.
  • If you struggle with dealing damage to Acheron, try destroying it's arms first, this will stop it from healing along decreasing it's defense to 5

Trivia

  • Acheron used to be Jack internally within the code, so many of the items related to Acheron use the name Jack in them.
  • It's healing mechanic, light beam, and bullet-hell design of Acheron is based off the Flesh Prison from the videogame: ULTRAKILL.
    • This is due to the developer's frustration with the fight, leading to the idea of making a "Flesh Prison-like" fight within the game.
