The Dowsing Rod is a Pre-Hardmode sword dropped by Nazrin. With each swing, it emits small orbs of light, capable of dealing damage at medium range. Its alternate fire instead generates a slower-moving orb that will search for ores or gem from within 60 tiles. It bases its target on the first ore/gem in the inventory. If it finds a target, one unit of this ore/gem is consumed.

The orbs of light, both those generated by the main fire as well as those of the alternate fire mode, cause ores and other valuables in their vicinity to glitter, similar to Spelunker Glowsticks.

Its best modifier is Legendary.
