The Outpost is a large crafting station that allows a player to set a temporary spawn point by pressing ⚷ Open / Activate button. Unlike beds, the Outpost has no requirements to function other than having enough space to place it. The Outpost is also a mechanism that can be toggled if wired. Toggling it off will only deactivate the lantern light sources, not the buffs.

When placed, or worn as an accessory, the outpost grants the effects of a Heart Lantern and Star in a Bottle to any players standing within a rectangular area of 170×125 tiles of the Outpost.

Additionally when placed, the outpost provides several additional functions:

As a crafting station it functions as a Work Bench, Placed Bottle, Cooking Pot, Anvil, Furnace, Heavy Work Bench, and Tinkerer's Workshop.
Pressing the ⚷ Open / Activate button on the piggy bank grants access to the player's Piggy Bank.
Pressing the ⚷ Open / Activate button on the safe grants access to the player's Safe.
Pressing the ⚷ Open / Activate button on the stool will seat the player, granting the same benefits as a chair.
Pressing the ⚷ Open / Activate button on the clock will show precise time in minutes as a status message on the bottom left corner.
If standing within the space occupied by the Outpost, the Outpost buff activates.
- Grants informational displays for depth, position and time.
- If the player was unharmed in the last 15 seconds:
  - Provides a constant 1 health every 2 seconds.
  - Grants immunity to bleeding.
  - Grants immunity to chilled if also near a campfire.
- If the player was unharmed in the last 30 seconds.
  - Provides a constant 1 health every 1 second (replaces previous effect).
  - Recover 8 times faster from Weak, Broken Armor, Chilled and Feral Bite debuffs.
