The Laser Rifle is a Hardmode magic weapon that autofires violet lasers which penetrate up to two enemies and emit moderate light. Despite its name, it does not count as a gun, cannot receive ranged weapon modifiers, and will not fulfill the requirements for the Arms Dealer to move in. The Laser Rifle can be considered an upgrade of the Space Gun, although the set effect of Meteor armor does not apply to it. The Laser Rifle has a 1/4 (25%) chance of being dropped by the Wall of Flesh.

Its best modifier is Mythical.

Tips

• The Laser Rifle is a fairly powerful weapon against worms due to its high fire rate and ability to pierce multiple segments.
• This weapon is fairly mana-efficient.
• While it deals relatively low damage, its high fire rate can allow it to remain useful even until mid-Hardmode.

Trivia

• A rifle is normally defined by its barrel being rifled, with helical grooves that cause the projectile to spin. However, this technicality was often ignored in pulp magazines, resulting in terms such as "laser rifle" or "plasma rifle" becoming part of popular culture. In real life, a laser weapon would not have a rifled barrel, as there is no projectile to be spun.
• The player can use the Laser Rifle while sleeping in a Bed (firing in a non-horizontal direction will wake them up).
