A piece of animate stardust, given life by some unknowable force. They cannot survive for long without a source of energy, granted by the strange lights that fill the sky.

BestiaryBestiary (Starite)

Starites are a pre-Hardmode enemy that only appears during a Glimmer. When initially spawned, it will fall from the sky like a typical Fallen Star, entering an idle state after hitting the ground. When it gets in sight of the player or takes damage, it will start attempting to attack with swirly movements. After being damaged, Starites enter a 3 second frenzy which greatly increases their speed and randomness.

In Classic Mode, it has a 25*1/4 (25%) to inflict On Fire! for 1 second, and a 50*1/2 (50%) to inflict Darkness for 5 seconds. In Expert Mode and Master Mode, On Fire! is replaced with Blue Fire, and Darkness is replaced with Blackout, and the chances to inflict debuffs are increased to 100%.

Starites begin spawning 1650 tiles (0% Progression) away from the Source of the Glimmer, and enter their maximum spawnrate when at 1200 tiles (27% Progression) away from the Source.

Notes

  • Starites do not deal high damage during the Fallen Star state, instead dealing regular damage. They also cannot be damaged in this state.

Trivia

  • Starites are tied with the Snow Flinx on having the 3rd least knockback resistance in the game, the second being Slimer without its wings, and first being Pinky.
  • Starites originally started off as a conceptual "Fallen Star" Mimic. However they were given a distinct color difference for the Glimmer due to becoming an enemy for the event.
  • The damage sound of the Starite is shared by many Martian Madness enemies, and also implies Starites are able to feel pain, due to having a "vocal" hurt noise.
  • Supposedly, "Starite" means "Living Star".
  • The Starite family is noticeably colored after the life cycle of Massive stars, which start off light blue in color.
